Those white legs in the winter, you don't want that. Especially not when you're going to a party and want to wear a nice dress. What's the solution for that? Self-tanner of course! But how do you apply self-tanner without it staining or turning orange? Those are of course the real no-go's when it comes to self-tanning. It's actually not that difficult to apply self-tanner, I'm going to explain step by step how to do it!

Cleaning

To start with, it is very important that you cleanse your skin completely. It is best to just take a nice shower before you start tanning. If you also want to tan your face, it is really a must to remove all make-up from your face. If you do not do this or forget a part, you will see that the product will not adhere well, so you will get a patchy effect. You can cleanse as you always do, with shower gel and make-up remover.

Scrubbing

If you are going to use self-tanner, you want it to last as long as possible. To ensure this, it is important that there are no dead skin cells left on your body. You can remove these by scrubbing! You can do this with a scrub for in the shower, such as a shower gel with scrub in it. You can also use a regular body scrub.

Moisturize

Once your skin is completely clean and scrubbed, there is one more step to take before you can start self-tanning. That is moisturizing , or hydrating the skin. This is done because self-tanners do not adhere well to dry skin. You can start moisturizing your body days before you apply the self-tanner. Only do this on the really dry areas, such as your knees, ankles, elbows and wrists/hands.

The most important thing is to apply a moisturizer just before you start self-tanning. Just do this with a body lotion that suits your skin type. Let the cream absorb well into the dry areas and then start applying the self-tanner.

Applying self-tanner

Body

Applying the self-tanner is of course the hardest part. To make it easier, use the tool that suits you! You can of course just apply the product with your hands, but that can cause the bottom of your hands to also get colored and that is of course not the intention. To prevent that, you have to wash your hands in between, not handy.

Therefore, it is better to use a tanning mitt . This is a glove with which you can apply the self-tanner. These are made of a special material that makes the self-tanner easy and even to apply! You can also just apply plastic gloves to protect your hands.

Once you have chosen one of the tools, it is time to apply the self-tanner! You do this by taking a little product and spreading it out well. Do this per body part to make it easier. Spread everything out well and make sure you do not miss any spots. Make circular movements to blend well. Do this on your entire body.

Sight

For your face, it is best to use a special face tanner , especially if you have sensitive skin. Apply the product to your face in the same way as you do to the rest of your body. Want to make it easier for yourself? Then use a buffer brush for your face. Do use a moisturizer on your face, especially around your eyelashes and eyebrows. Make sure you apply the product well around your eyes so that it doesn't look like you've been in the sun for too long with your sunglasses on!

To wait

Have you applied the self-tanner everywhere? Then it's time to wait. After applying the product, wait until it has completely absorbed before getting dressed, about fifteen minutes. If you don't do that, your clothes could get stained and that would be a shame of course. Make sure you don't come into contact with water and don't sweat for the first 8 hours after self-tanning. It is therefore useful to do it in the evening so that it can be absorbed properly while you are sleeping. Don't be afraid that it will stain your sheets, that won't happen after that fifteen minutes!

After the application period you can simply rinse yourself off, do this with water without soap. Also be careful when applying a new layer of self tanner; this can cause stains!
