Are you unsure about your undertone? Look at the veins on your wrist: if they look more blue or purple, you have a cool undertone. If they are greenish, your undertone is warm. If you see both green and blue, you probably have a neutral undertone.
- Cool undertone: Go for cool red tones with a blue base, such as cherry red or raspberry red.
- Warm undertone: Choose warm red tones such as tomato red, orange-red or rusty red.
- Neutral undertone: Lucky you! You can rock both warm and cool red lipsticks.
Choosing a lipstick based on your undertone will balance your face and make your complexion look even fresher. Another thing to keep in mind; a lipstick with a warm undertone will make your teeth look more yellow than a red lipstick with a cool undertone, which will make your teeth look whiter.
Scrub & hydrate: the perfect base
A smooth lip is the ideal base for lipstick. Start with a gentle lip scrub to remove any flakes. Then apply a hydrating lip balm and let it soak in. Did you accidentally color a little outside the lines? Don't stress, with these tips you will restore your straight line in no time.
- Take a slightly damp cotton swab and wipe in one direction along your lip line to remove excess lipstick . If it's still there, take the other side of the swab and repeat. Never go over the same side twice, or you'll end up with pink stains.
- Take a flat concealer brush and take some concealer on the side of the brush (not too much). Make sure the concealer matches your skin tone.
- Run the concealer brush with the concealer side along the edge of your lips (not over them), this way you touch up the foundation that you smudged off and you also draw a sharp line around your lips for that sharp line you want with a red lip.
- Blend the concealer , without touching your lipstick ;), to make it one whole again with your foundation.
