Clean Beauty is the trend in Beauty land!
Clean actually stands for free from for example certain ingredients, which are controversial. This includes Cyclic Silicones, PEGs, Synthetic Fragrances, Parabens, Phthalates, Chemical SPF and Hard Sulfates. Clean Beauty products are often made from natural ingredients or sustainable synthetic alternatives.
But what do these ingredients actually mean?
Cyclic Silicones are synthetic substances often used in hair and facial care. This ingredient helps, for example, to make your hair supple.
PEG is short for Polyethylene Glycols, this is an ingredient that is often used to improve the consistency of cosmetics.
Parabens are preservatives, they are used to make your makeup products last longer.
Phthalates are plasticizers, they are used to keep a cream supple, for example.
Chemical SPF is made from Oxybenzones. This ingredient should protect your skin, but research has shown that your skin absorbs it, which can be harmful to your skin and body in the long run. Oxybenzone is also a known cause of allergic reactions.
Hard Sulphates are salts obtained from sulfuric acid. Sulphates are often used in cleaning products that purify and foam.
